Mind-bending sci-fi game Elea is now out on Xbox One and Steam

More On: Elea

The Bulgarian two-man dev team at Kyodai Ltd. seem to have pulled off a graphical stunner with their new science fiction adventure game Elea.

The world that Kyodai has built as the backdrop for Elea is fascinating. The year is 2073, and with the advent of advanced AI, mankind has reached the stars and discovered alien lifeforms. Advanced colonies have been built on Mars and various moons around the solar system. Unfortunately, along with all of this grand scientific advancement, humanity has also developed a genetic mutation that causes all Earth-born infants to become violent psychopaths. Bummer.

Elea is a woman who believes that she is in a beach house on Earth, awaiting the birth of her second child. In reality, she is in stasis, reliving memories that will aid in her recovery from some unknown injury. The juxtaposition of her perceived reality and the truth make up the crux of the game.

I almost skimmed right past this game announcement, but I’m so glad that I stopped to watch the trailer. This is just the sort of trippy “2001/Ex Machina/Annihilation” hallucinogenic brand of science fiction that I love. The trailer is visually stunning and speaks to a much deeper and mysterious world than what is perceived on the surface.

The first episode of Elea is now available on Xbox One and Steam, where it has garnered Highly Positive reviews from users. The primary comments seem to imply that the game is a slow burn, with a focus on story instead of action, which sounds perfect for this sort of game. For the tech crowd, the game is fully Xbox One X enhanced, runs on 60 FPS and has dynamic resolution with native 4K Ultra HD support.
