Final Fantasy XII coming to PC Feb. 1st, complete with a ton of deals and goodies

More On: Final Fantasy XII

Square Enix had a lot of success with their revamped version of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age last year, eventually selling over a million copies of the eleven-year-old game on PS4. Often sited online as one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time, FF XII is sometimes left in the shadow of Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII when people discuss their favorites. I’ve been playing through the PS4 version, and I’m happy to report that Final Fantasy XII has aged very well, and is much more accessible for modern gamers than some of the other, more popular titles.

Square Enix has announced that they will be bringing this new version of FF XII to PC on the first of February.  Along with the life-saving fast forward feature, which makes the chore of grinding into a hilarious jet-powered laugh festival, Square Enix has included a bunch of other PC exclusive features:

  • 60FPS - Ivalice will look better than ever with the game running at 60FPS.
  • Compatible with 21:9 ultra-wide monitors - Up to three HD monitors can be used for a potential 48(16x3):9 experience.
  • New Game Plus and New Game Minus - Post-game content modes are now accessible from the beginning of the game.
  • Three background music options – The original, re-orchestrated and soundtrack versions are now available from the beginning of the game.
  • Maximized License Points and Gil - New functionality added to grant players max License Points and Gil from the configuration screen.
  • Full controller support, Steam Trading Cards and more to optimize the PC player experience.

Additionally, folks purchasing FF XII on Steam the first week will receive a 20% discount, a three song musical compilation, and a new Steam skin. There is also a crazy Collector’s Edition for the game, available now for pre-order exclusively from the Square Enix Online Store for $149.99. The Collector’s Edition features an official Collector’s Edition Steelbook™ with the original soundtrack, a five-piece Judge Masters Bust Set, six-card art set and a digital download code for the game.

The only new feature that gives me pause is the Max License Points and Gil feature. Maybe it’s just me, but I think avoiding this feature would be wise. I’ve found that engaging in cheats of this nature tends to ruin RPGs for me. With all the numbers set to maximum, I find little reason to continue playing, and my will to continue kind of drains away. Final Fantasy XII is easy enough as it is, and grinding in this game is painless and fun. Maximize your stats at your own peril!
