Sting is a Tarot-dealing wolf in Where the Water Tastes Like Wine

More On: Where the Water Tastes Like Wine

It's time to talk about the Great Depression. About Hoovervilles. About surviving Manifest Destiny. It's time to talk about the personal stories cut from all across America's patchwork quilt. It's time to go Where the Water Tastes Like Wine.

Developer Dim Bulb Games has you traveling across a 3D map of the United States in economic struggle, with a dusty folk soundtrack, and excellent 2D sketches. There are trains, drifters, troubadours, and campfires out under the stars. It's about getting in where you fit in; and perhaps having to walk forever because you simply won't fit in anywhere. But you'll hear some stories and you'll tell some stories along the way. You'll tell the story of the unnerving lounge singer. Or the story of the stabbed and bleeding bull in Georgia. Tarot cards are involved somehow.

I don't fully know what to make of Where the Water Tastes Like Wine, and that's OK. When it comes to a game that hits all these dark country notes just right, sometimes I'm just fine with sticking out my thumb and hitching a ride. By its own admission, the game grows ever more fantastical, psychedelic, surreal, and creepy as things move along. I like it.

The voice talent is stacked with pedigree. On the leaderboard is musician, singer, songwriter and actor Sting. But we've also got Dave Fennoy (Telltale's The Walking Dead), Cissy Jones (Firewatch), Kimberly Brooks (Mass Effect), and more.

Where the Water Tastes Like Wine is coming to PC early this year.
