The Walking Dead video game we all want is heading to arcades

More On: AMC's The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead is on of the biggest franchises in all of entertainment. It is a little shocking, given that fact, that we haven’t seen much translate over to the world of video games outside of Telltale’s interactive-story series. There was one FPS take on the franchise, but I think that we can all agree that it would be best if we pretend that game never happened. The franchise deserves quality shooter experience in the world of gaming, and it looks like it will finally be getting that in early 2017.

The Walking Dead is getting an on-rail shooting arcade game courtesy of developer Raw Thrills. The machine was recently revealed and announced to be launching to arcades this coming January. This is the same development house that was responsible for the arcade versions of Terminator Salvation and Aliens Armageddon, which were solid shooters in each of their own rights. The machine features an enclosed seating area where players are set behind their own, individual crossbows to take down the undead.

This looks like a lot of fun and I will definitely be keeping an eye out at places like Dave and Buster’s to see if this cabinet arrives after the first of the year. The lightgun shooting genre is one that I think is missing from today’s world of video games. Sure, these types of games are usually relatively short, scripted experiences, but they are a ton of fun to play with your friends. Given the rise in motion controllers with the trackable lights on the Dualshock 4 to things like Kinect and the VIVE, I am shocked more games like this haven’t made the jump from the arcades to consoles and computers. Hopefully that changes in the near future.
