Obsidian Entertainment is hard at work on their upcoming strategy RPG, Tyranny, but the developers took some time out of their schedule to make this dev diary discussing the art of the game. In this video the game director and the art team discuss how the lore, setting and character personalities shaped the art style of the game, and how the artists tried to make the world of Tyranny feel like a place people lived in day-to-day. Most amusingly, when the artists couldn't find any animation references for the characters, the developers acted out the desired animations themselves.

If you would like to get a closer look at Tyranny, Obsidian will be hosting a livestream today at 4:00 PM Pacific Time, at their Twitch page here.

STOCKHOLM and IRVINE, Calif. — Sep. 22, 2016 — Paradox Interactive and Obsidian Entertainment today released the second in a three-part video series about Tyranny, the upcoming role-playing game (RPG) for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs. In this new episode, fans will meet the many artists and designers who have brought the world of Tyranny to life through animation, music, character design, and much more. From the basic concepts of the characters who inhabit the game to the look and feel of the overrun lands, the new video shows the countless contributions that go into creating a new world where evil has won.

Paradox and Obsidian will also feature a live stream of Tyranny later today, demonstrating a few new features not yet shared in public, including the game’s custom spell-creation systems and a bit of dungeon exploration. The stream begins at 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time today, September 22, at https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive.

In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find new roles within the war-torn realm. Players’ decisions will have far-reaching consequences and change both the land and its people, providing a non-linear, highly replayable experience. Tyranny is scheduled to arrive for Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs in 2016.
