The January NPD numbers have been
released and there's a bit of a surprise in the #2 spot as the PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 for the month of January.
Wii - 274,000 units sold
PlayStation 3 - 269,000 units sold
Xbox 360 - 230,000 units sold
If you throw in the numbers for the
PS2 and handhelds the list looks like this:
Wii 274,000k
PlayStation 3 269,000
PlayStation 2 264,000
Nintendo DS 251,000
Sony PSP 230,000
Xbox 360 230,000
Of course the low Xbox 360 number might be due to the
rumblings of Xbox 360 shortages around the country but I'm not entirely sold on that yet although a trip to Best Buy showed that they only had two of the
Halo 3 editions on their shelves. It will be interesting to see if Sony can keep the momentum going into February or not. I would imagine the PSP is going to get a nice boost soon as
Patabon and
God of War: Chains of Olympus both look like they could move some hardware.
