Jacky Bryant and Ein coming to Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate!

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment
We already knew that Ninja Gaiden's Momiji was joining the Dead Or Alive 5 cast and today we info about two other fighters joining the tournament.

The Virtua Fighter tournaments may be over but that doesn't mean Jacky Bryant is going to stop fighting as he joins the cast along with DOA fan favorite, Ein, who will make his first DOA appearance since Dead Or Alive 2 and comes with new character and costume designs.

We also have info about two brand new arenas that will be packed in with the game as well. "Lost World" has players fighting above the clouds on a steep vertical stone cliff. Players need to be aware of their surroundings as one blow will send them flying off the cliff to more fighting levels below. "Forest" takes place in, well, a forest surrounded by beautiful autumn foliage and a single road that gets steep as it approaches the mountains.

Finally, Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate will pack in brand new costumes for fighters in the game. Hitomi will sport a new hairstyle with a new denim jacket and jean outfit. Kasumi sports a new blue cardigan and Christie wears a new police officer uniform. Many more costumes will be revealed as we get closer to launch.

Finally, we have brand new screen shots and videos showing off all three new characters as well as the new stages and new outfits.

Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate will be released this fall on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. We know there is a retail version but we have no word yet on if this will be DLC for those who already own Dead Or Alive 5. As someone who owns DOA 5 and DOA 5+, I really hope this is case.

Now Playing: Gods Among the Sleep Edition

by: Randy - - Add a Comment
So, the Xbox One reveal is a thing that happened, but we’re here to talk about games that you can play right now. Defiance is free-to-play from May 23 (yesterday) until this Sunday, 1 PM (Pacific). SimCity is now up to version 4.0, and despite what John Yan is saying, probably none of us at Gaming Nexus is logging back in. And you Far Cry 3 map editors can now spin your VHS tracking knobs with Blood Dragon content.

What are you playing this weekend?

Russell Archey | staff writer | Twitter @neoscyther
I finally finished up with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Yes, you read that right. I finally finished the main quest in Skyrim--and boy did I overdo it. Full dragon plate armor, free destruction spells, the works. Well enough about that. This weekend I'm planning to enjoy an old classic thanks to Steam's Unreal Deal being only $10 until May 27, so I'll likely be playing something with the words "Unreal Tournament" in it somewhere.

Sean Cahill | staff writer | Twitter @seancahill2
Unfortunately with one hand fully bandaged, I'm going to have to play some old school role-playing games and nothing new, so I dusted off the Wii and plan on playing Final Fantasy VI a bit.

Nathan Carter | staff writer | Twitter @natedoggcata
It’s Memorial Day weekend, and that means all hands on deck where I work, so I won't be able to do much gaming. If I get time, I'll probably try to get some practice in with Injustice: Gods Among Us. Other than that, it will probably be quick games of Left 4 Dead 2 when I can. My regularly scheduled gaming will continue next week when I get my hands on Donkey Kong Country 3DS

Sean Colleli | staff writer
I'll be finishing up Resident Evil Revelations on Wii U. If Capcom keeps going like this, we might actually get the sequel to Resident Evil 4 that it deserved. After that, I'll be enjoying Super Metroid on the Wii U Virtual Console, and maybe some more System Shock 2 on Steam.

Jeremy Duff | senior staff writer | Twitter @duff3c
I will be spending my weekend finishing off FUSE before its launch, and boosting up my virtual card collection in Prime World Defenders. Between that and welcoming the true start of summer with the opening of the pool season, I should find a means of enjoying the extended weekend.

Charles Husemann | editor-in-chief | Twitter @chusemann
I'm going off into the woods for the weekend so it's going to be nothing but iPad games like Temple Run 2, Bookworm Heroes, and  Jetpack Joyride. I'll also be playing fun outdoor games like "Which kinds of snakes are poisonous again?" "No, I thought you packed that," and "WHAT WAS THAT NOISE? OH GOD, WHY DID I WATCH ALL THE FRIDAY THE 13TH MOVIES THE WEEK BEFORE SPENDING A WEEKEND IN A CABIN IN THE WOODS?"

Randy Kalista | staff writer | Twitter @randykalista
Hoping to lose a little sleep as I roam Among the Sleep's alpha. My own post-toddler (is that an age? "Post-toddler"?), well, she gets to trippin' in the middle of the night sometimes, images of her dream world leaking over into her real world. Good times. Checking out this horror game played from the perspective of a two-year-old is probably my worst idea ever. Love the game's title though. Among the Sleep. I mean, I guess that's where you'd eventually find yourself if you were told to "go to" sleep.

Mike Mahardy | staff writer | Twitter @mmahardy
I'll be finishing up FUSE for review, as well as the yearly playthrough of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night that always throws off my backlog schedule. Other than that, I'll keep playing Injustice: Gods Among Us, as it has me completely hooked. I particularly love Green Arrow and Lex.

Gus Fring stars in new Destiny trailer

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
That's Giancarlo Esposito to those that have no idea what Breaking Bad is.  In whatever way you know him best, he narrates, via bed-time storytime, the following trailer for Bungie's still-mostly-mysterious sorta MMO, Destiny.  The trailer will appear on television on Saturday, May 25 during Game 3 of the NBA Western conference finals, you know, in case your computer explodes in between now and whenever you actual try to watch the trailer.

The trailer is called "Law of the Jungle" and gives but a taste of what might be in store for gamers when they finally get their hands on Destiny.  We'll know more after Sony's PS3 E3 press conference on June 10.

Visit www.DestinyTheGame.com and www.bungie.net for more details.  If you're more socially inclined then find it at www.facebook.com/DestinyTheGame and on Twitter at @DestinyTheGame.

EA Sports using Ultimate Team packs as FIFA pre-order bait once again

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Now that the European football* season is pretty much over with only the UEFA Champion's League Final left to be contested on Saturday, fans will have to find their footie fix somewhere else until next August.  I can't speak for others, but FIFA Soccer is where I'll turn when Beautiful Game withdrawal becomes too much to bear.

Now despite FIFA 13 itself being pretty good, there's still a ton of room to improve and the improvements being bandied about now (enhanced shooting, smarter AI, more options when you're on the ball) are definitely areas that can stand improvement in FIFA Soccer 14.

However, not everything is changing because just like last year EA Sports is using the promise of 24 weekly free Ultimate Team gold packs as a pre-order incentive.  If you're not familiar with FIFA Ultimate Team, it basically turns its particular brand of football in to a collectible card game where you assemble your squad from players you get in virtual packs you can spend in-game points and/or real money on.  Along with players, you get all sorts of other cards from buffs, balls, kits, and even stadiums.

Your Ultimate Team is a true Frankenstein's monster built from the disparate parts you get in card packs.  Gold packs are top shelf card packs with a higher rate of rare players and items than the other standard card packs.  If you pre-order the "Ultimate Pass" pre-order package, you'll receive 24 weekly gold packs for free which is more than enough to build a solid starting squad.  This Ultimate Pass is only available until September 23, with the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of FIFA 14 set to release the next day on September 24.

The EA Sports Ignite-powered Xbox One and PS4 versions of FIFA 14 will be out "in the next 12 months" and will be available for pre-order "soon."  If you want to see what Ignite-powered next-gen games will look like, you can check out this video from a few days ago.

To learn more, follow the jump.

*Yeah, I'm calling it football.  So what?  There's more than one kind of football.  The whole soccer/football argument is little more than an outdated tribal rivalry anyway. [READ MORE]

Epic Mickey 2 painting a pretty picture on the Vita this June

Sony has announced that an enhanced version of Epic Mickey 2 will be launching on the PlayStation Vita on June 18, 2013. The game is a port of the PlayStation version of the game and includes a variety of new features thanks to the handheld’s capabilities. The title will make full use of the front touch screen on the Vita for things such as your paint, paint thinner, and Oswald’s electric beam and orientation-based controls will be added to things such as driving levels.

The game will be available exclusively through the PlayStation Network for $35.99 next month!

Purchase Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D at Best Buy and get SMB: The Lost Levels for free

by: Russell - - Add a Comment
While browsing Facebook this morning I saw that Nintendo had posted an offer that will be exclusive to Best Buy.  If you purchase Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (available today) at Best Buy, you'll receive a free digital download code for Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels on the 3DS Virtual Console.  According to BestBuy.com, the code for The Lost Levels will be emailed typically within thirty minutes, but could take up to eight hours.  Here's hoping it's not as much of a hassle as it was when Kid Icarus Uprising came out and you got 3D Classics: Kid Icarus for free.  Still, you're not only getting the latest Donkey Kong Country game but also one of the toughest classic Super Mario games out there.  Definitely worth it in my opinion.

What Xbox One boxes will look like

by: John - - Add a Comment
Straight from Major Nelson's Google+ page, here what the box for Xbox One games will look like. Simple, nothing too fancy. You'll get the green border with white lettering for the Xbox One designation at the top. Now, not many games were talking about at the presentation last Tuesday, but that's what E3's for so hopefully, Microsoft lets out all the stops on game announcements then.

Techland announces Dying Light

by: Mike - - Add a Comment
The city is overrun by infected citizens. Daylight is fading fast, and supplies are running low. You have no choice but to race against time, and race against the setting sun. Because once it sets, the real predators come out. This is Dying Light.

With a seamless day and night cycle, survival aspects and next-gen graphics, Tehcland aims to capture the essence of their survival title Dead Island, and the appeal of scavenging in Minecraft, in their upcoming title Dying Light.

"The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day/night cycle," Pawel Marchewka, Techland CEO said. "Inventive free-running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon-crafting to further enhance the action survival experience."

Dying Light is announced for both current and next generation consoles, with a 2014 release date, following closely on the heels of Techland's other recently announced title, Hellraid.

In Infinite Crisis, Warner Bros. upcoming MOBA featuring characters form the DC Universe, heroes and villains collide in a battle of alternate universes. The newest video profile features Shazam, a hero intent on being at the center of the fray to disrupt the enemy team with lightning and magical attacks.

His melee-based attacks are best used up close, although he's one of the more versatile characters, being able to switch between two forms. Check out the trailer for Shazam's full list of attacks.

Modern Warfare 3/Call of Duty: Ghosts tech smackdown

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Does anyone else find the poor German Shepard all kitted out for battle in the new Call of Duty: Ghosts trailer a bit disconcerting?  I swear that I saw a laser gun on its back.  I don't normally have strong feelings when it come to animal rights, but well-trained dogs don't exactly excel in the free will department.  That dog, and the real dogs its based on, are basically combat slaves with the emotions of infant children.  Maybe now thanks to the new graphics tech the Xbox One wields, even dogs have entered the Uncanny Valley.

Whatever, it sure did look impressive, right?  I guess that's all that matters in this particular context.  You can see the full battle-dog comparison, along with battle-human, and battle-jungle comparisons in the following Modern Warfare 3/COD: Ghosts comparison trailer.

GTA V pre-order details

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
Besides BioWare RPGs, no upcoming new release makes me want to enter cryogenic stasis more than a Rockstar open-world title. GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption sit right up there with my favorite games of all time, and I have no reason to expect that GTA V will be the title that lets me down.  What GTA IV had that sucked me in was a strong sense of place, and I can feel that same sense of place oozing out of Grand Theft Auto V's screenshots.  That's like getting a sunburn from your buddy's vacation photos.

It's really too bad that the nitrogen-flux matrix on my cryostasis machine blew out the last time I tried to use it.  Thank the Maker I was only testing it on the neighbor's cat.  The neighbors weren't happy, but at least I didn't need someone to explain to my children why their daddy was now an empty husk.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic....  Rockstar has announced a GTA V Special and Collectors Edition and revealed their details along with pre-order bonuses.

The GTA V Special Edition will include the full game (natch), a SteelBook filled with exclusive artwork, a Blueprint Map of Los Santos and Blaine County, the Stunt Plane Trial mini-game, bonus outfits, new weapons, and the three playable characters, Michael, Franklin, and Trevor, will receive a boost to the recharge rate on their special ability meter.

The GTV V Special Edition will run you a cool $79.99.

The GTA V Collector's Edition includes everything in the Special Edition plus a GTA V Security Deposit Bag with Logo Key inspired by the in-game heists, a GTA V 9FIFTY Snapback Cap from New Era, custom characters to use online, unique vehicles and an in-game garage to store them in, and the game will come in a collectible outer box with the GTA V logo foil embosses across its surface and a matte, scuff-resistant film lamination.

The GTA V Collector's Edition will run you an even cooler $149.99.

Finally, everyone who pre-orders the standard game, Special Edition, or the Collector's Edition will get the in-game ability to pilot the Atomic Blimp.

You can pre-order them starting now right up until GTA V's September 17 release date or while supplies last.

Are there insanely huge trucks in Hardware: Shipbreakers? Yes, yes there are

by: Randy - - Add a Comment
At this very moment, my three-year-old daughter is sitting on the sidewalk in front of our house, watching construction workers cut holes in the street and insert underground pipes. Huge trucks are involved, and her toddler brain is hardwired to want to know what's up with those huge trucks.

Blackbird Interactive, the indie team putting together Hardware: Shipbreakers, knows this about people--knows that enormous vehicles can trigger a dopamine drip in our cerebellum.

This Hardware: Shipbreakers trailer showcases a huge truck. Like what-the-heck huge. Along with the concept art-like art style, I'm in love with what I'm seeing from this online real-time strategy game. It's definitely registering a dopamine drip at the base of my brain.

First PC screens for Mortal Kombat look as good as you would expect

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
Finally, oh finally, NetherRealm is answering the call of its fans and releasing Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition for the PC. We knew that already thanks to Nathan, but now we are getting our first glimpse at the project and it pretty much looks exactly like you would expect. The PC version of the game will likely be the best looking version to date, depending on the strength of your system of course. However, that isn’t why I am excited: I can’t wait to see what the PC gaming community does with the game when they get their hands on it. Whether mods are officially supported or not, you know that the crafty PC gamers are going to find a means of manipulating the game’s content (just look at Street Fighter IV).

Anyways, look for the game later this Summer and check out what you have to look forward to below:

NVIDIA launches new flagship video card in the GeForce GTX 780

by: John - - Add a Comment
Want the latest and greatest consumer video card? Then look no further than the GeForce GTX 780. Today, NVIDIA unveiled their latest flagship video card and it sounds like it's going to be hella fast.

Up to 35% faster than the GeForce GTX 680, the card has 2,304 CUDA cores and 3GB of memory to give you plenty of power. It runs quieter than the previous card. With GPU Boost 2.0, you can do things like set a card to run a certain temperature and the card will adjust its clocks to make it run cooler.

GeForce Experience is a convenient piece of software to let you download game ready drivers and also adjust the games at its best settings. You don't have to do settings by hand anymore if you don't want to to get the best visual experience.

One of the things I'm most excited about that's launching with the card is Shadow Play. Shadow Play can auto record the last 20 minutes of your gameplay and will take advantage of the video card to encode the video into H.264. It can be set always on so you don't have to even think about it. Now, there's no Twitch integration yet, but NVIDIA's going to be improving on this and if they add that in, say goodbye to buying software to do your streaming needs if you're using a NVIDIA card.

NVIDIA was extremely nice enough to send us a card so expect a review next week. If you want the card, you can grab it today for a price of $649

Patch 4.0 out today for SimCity

by: John - - Add a Comment
The fixing of SimCity continues as patch 4.0 should be delivered today. Looks like some fans of the game who purchased it early get access to a new park called SimCity Launch Park. It doesn't say what qualifies you to get this park as it just says early adopters will have access. Does it mean those that pre-ordered? Perhaps those that purchased before patch 1? Guess we'll know today.

Leaderboards are finally back in. Sort of. They will be activated by regions so the first ones up are EU West 3, Pacific 1 and Pacific 2. The others will be rolled out in due time.

The last time I played was pre-patch 1 so it's been a while. I think I'll jump back in sometime to see how the game is after all the patching. It's got to be better, right?

Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition coming to PC later this year

by: Nathan - - Add a Comment
If you frequent Mortal Kombat forums like I do, you would know that Mortal Kombat fans have essentially been begging Netherealm Studios to release a PC version of 2011's Mortal Kombat since it was released. Van Helsing begins his quest on Steam

by: Jeremy - - Add a Comment
NoecoreGames has officially launched its action RPG The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing on Valve’s Steam service. The game retails for $14.99 but is being offered for 10% until May 29.

I took a brief look at the game last week and had a lot of fun with it, although I know that I barely scratched the surface of the adventure. The final build brings the full alchemy system and the ability to design and develop your own hideout for a meta game where you face off against waves of monsters. You can check out the official launch trailer for the game below:

DLC and season pass is coming to Metro: Last Light

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
I haven't played Metro: Last Light yet.  I wasn't a big fan of the first game's stealth and swarming melee enemies.  But many of you have no doubt already saved Moscow from a Nazi-monster invasion (That's what happens, right?).  If you're one of those people, and think your Metro: Last Light experience is over then you obviously need to swap out the air filter in your gas mask because the fumes are getting to you.  Metro: Last Light is getting a series of single-player dlc and a season pass so you can get it all at a modest discount.  It also grants players a new semi-automatic shotgun called the Abzats whose secondary fire mode fires six shells at once.

The Faction Pack and Chronicles Pack expand the Metro: Last Light story.  The Tower Pack adds solo challenges.  Finally, the Developer Pack gives players new tools to explore post-apocalyptic Moscow.

The season pass, available right now for download from Xbox Live, the PSN, and Steam, costs $14.99/1200 MSP.  The first dlc pack will be out in June.

EA Sports ignites next-gen sports on Xbox One

by: Nathaniel - - Add a Comment
The Ignite engine is EA Sport's next-gen sports engine.  It got its first big introduction yesterday as part of the whole Xbox One (boy, that sure is nicer to type than "Xbox 360") announcement.  It upgrades rendering, physics, animations, artificial intelligence, locomotion, and pretty much everything else that makes an EA Sports game what it is.

The four titles announced that will take advantage of Ignite are Madden NFL 25, FIFA Soccer 14, NBA Live 14, and EA Sports UFC.  In these games, Ignite will allow the AI-controlled players to make more natural decisions, ostensibly the decisions an actual human would make.  Ignite can handle four times the calculations per second which, ideally, means faster decision-making at the very least.  Ignite can also handle 10-times the animations that previous engines could.  I don't even think I need to explain that one.

Anyway, you can watch the following video for some idea what next-gen games using Ignite will look like.

For full details, follow the jump.  You can also find EA Sports on the web and Facebook and get all the lastest news at ea.com/news.  You can also visit Madden 25, FIFA 14, NBA 14, and EA Sports UFC on the web.

New DLC available for Strike Suit Zero, plus all Strike Suit content 50% off on Steam

by: Russell - - Add a Comment
Born Ready Games has expanded the Strike Suit universe with new DLC content for their space action game Strike Suit Zero.  The new Heroes of the Fleet DLC will include five new missions to the game and is available now for $6.99, but that's not all.  Born Ready Games has also released a new Mod Tool that includes Steam Workshop support and can be downloaded for free for anyone who currently has Strike Suit Zero...but that's STILL not all.

What if you're reading this and thinking "well I don't have Strike Suit Zero so this doesn't apply to me"?  Well, this part will.  Until May 26th, all Strike Suit content on Steam will be 50% off.  You can also get a "mega bundle" that contains Strike Suit Infinity, Strike Suit Zero, the Heroes of the Fleet DLC, the Raptor Strike Suit, and the digital art book for only $19.99.  If you were to buy everything individually while it's on sale, that alone would get you the art book, so it's like buying the art book and the rest of the content is free...if you want to look at it that way.
