Gamestop and Insomniac Games team up for Song of the Deep

It appears as if Gamestop is getting into the video game publication business. The company announced today, along with developer Insomniac Games, that it’s first game being published is a new Metroidvania styled adventure game titled Song of the Deep. The game will be available digitally and in retail on the PS4, Xbox One and PC this coming Summer.

Song of the Deep is a side-scrolling shooter that allows you to explore a non-linear underwater world. You will play as a young girl named Merryn who explores a beautiful oceanic setting experiencing adventures that she once thought were simply fables told to her by her father as a small child. The game is all about exploration; as you find new tools and abilities, you’ll be able to explore new areas that were previously unaccessible to you.

This looks very interesting and is a bit of a departure from what we have come to expect from Insomniac Games. In the past, they have been known for their humor in games like Ratchet & Clank as well as Sunset Overdrive. That childish humor seems absent here, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
