E3 2015: Xbox One's first cross-platform game is World of Tanks

More On: World of Tanks

The Xbox One and Xbox 360 will engage in cross-platform multiplayer combat with each other for the first time—and World of Tanks is hosting the carnage. That means players on both consoles will be fighting on the same battlefields in some grade-A shoot 'em up bang-bang tank action. It's just that it will look prettier on the Xbox One, of course.

The game is still free to play (with an Xbox Gold subscription), and there are in-game purchases available if you want to speed up the grind. The game is 100% feature complete, though, without spending a dime. I know I haven't. And now I feel bad about that, considering the years' worth of game time I've gotten from it.

Q: Why does World of Tanks frequently take up hero spots on the Xbox 360's homepage and game page. A: Because it's awesome. And cross-platform multiplayer is yet another great move by developer Wargaming.

World of Tanks comes to Xbox One on July 28.
