CES 2015: Nyko's Data Bank lets you use a lot bigger hard drives in your PlayStation 4

Are you running out of space on your PlayStation 4? Yes, you can upgrade the 2.5" hard drive in your console, but what if you want something bigger, faster, stronger?

Nyko has a solution for you. The Nyko Data Bank for the PlayStation 4 replaces the 2.5" hard drive in your console with a unit that sits on top. The design of it makes it looks like it blends in with the system itself.

With the Data Bank, you can now put in any 3.5" hard drive. These hard drives tend to run larger and less expensive than the smaller laptop sized 2.5" ones. Pick up a nice 6TB 7200 RPM drive and you'll have space galor for all you game saves, data, and recordings.

It looks like a nice solution to a problem that heavy gamers have. Nyko hasn't set a price or reveal a launch date yet, but they think it should be out in the first half of this year.

The Data Bank is a hard drive dock for PS4 that replaces the top of the console and the 2.5” hard drive in order to provide compatibility with 3.5” hard drives as internal storage. The solution eliminates the need for an external hard drive, which currently cannot support game installs or save data. This also allows for larger storage, faster running speeds and less expensive prices found with 3.5” hard drives. The design of the replacement dock lid seamlessly matches the minimalist design of the PS4. Once a 3.5” drive is slid into the Data Bank, a built-in LED strip illuminates while the console is accessing its memory. The Data Bank represents Nyko’s commitment to expand the core functionality and capabilities of video game hardware with its accessories. It is anticipated to begin shipping in the first half of 2015. Patent Pending.
