Endless Space out next week (and why you should care)

The folks at Amplitude studios have announced that their new 4X game Endless Space
will be out next week (July 4th) for $29.99. If you remember the interview
we did with them a few months ago they took a fairly interesting approach to the development of the game as they partnered with people in the community to get ideas for what people wanted in the final game.
I've had the pleasure of playing the alpha and beta of the game and I'm here to tell you that if you're a fan of 4X game this one is worth checking out. Sure all the standard 4X tropes are there but the folks at Amplititude have streamlined the 4X experience so that you focus on the important stuff without having to micromanage. Things like colonization have been made a lot easier so you don't spend the early parts of your came trying to colonize every planet in a system, rather you just colonize a system and then work the planets from there (assuming you can colonize that type of planet).
Combat in the game is also a joy as the game has a nice cinematic approach to the actual encounters. I'm not sure I'd called it real time but you do get to control some of the tactics your ships have in battle. Look for more information in the coming weeks as we get the chance to play the final version of the game.
