First General British leaves NCSoft and now Tabula Rasa is going to be shutting down as well. NCSoft has made a post stating that the game will be turned off on February 28th, 2009. For those that want to play, it`ll be free starting January 10th, 2009 so you get a month and change of free play if you want to try it out. I remember Richard Garriot talking about this venture many, many moons ago at E3 and it`s sad to see it didn`t have the success that we thought it would. It was a long time coming and a short time here.

Survival of the fittest. I can't even 100% put my finger on why I didn't fall in love with Tabula Rasa. It seemed like it was doing a lot of things right. But the world still felt so unconvincing. I mean, I know that fantasy and sci-fi make frequent bed partners, but I just wasn't feeling the chemistry in this case.
There were a few standout features, sure. But you really had to focus on them at the expense of everything else -- and you had to focus on a few, tiny technical achievements in order to defeat this overwhelming sense of apathy about Tabula Rasa's people and places.
Yeah, I'm sorry to see it shut down too. But I didn't grow up with the Ultima games, so Richard Garriott's name on a box means little to me personally. And Tabula Rasa just isn't a compelling enough creation to even have me go back in January to play it for free. There are currently too many other boldly fleshed out MMOs that shame Tabula Rasa.

Meh I played the beta and demo and simply could not get into it. I thought the controls sucked and it simply felt like too much effort to play it.
